Organizational Meeting this Wed: 7pm

Mon, 04/23/2012 - 2:37pm -- drjohn
We haven't had a formal meeting since before we got the space, and it's time to get everyone together to make some decisions about the space and direction of the group.

Topics include, but are not limited to:

More open hack times / more accessibility to non keyholders

Liability release forms and other tedious but essential paperwork

Artswalk

Finances

Group buys

Changes in the space (layout, amenities)

Security and access in the space (RFID, cameras)

Canon Hack Development Kit

It has come up in conversation several times lately, so I am posting a pointer:

CHDK software and scripts add a superset of functions to most Canon point and shoot cameras, giving them extra programmability and new features.  You want to send up a camera on a kite or quadcopter and have it take pictures every N seconds?  You want to do time lapse photography?  How about motion sensing for security or trail cameras? USB camera control?  All this and more + it doesn't require permanent modification of the camera! (read more) about Canon Hack Development Kit

Power Tool Drag Racing

I only bring this up because it has happened in Olympia in association with Artswalk in April 2011 (and 2009) and may happen again.  It does not involve microcontrollers or software...more like beer and duct tape.  Still...it looked awesome fun when I saw races in Georgetown and at a Maker Faire.  I doubt it is legal to run your racer off a Variac to get 130V, but there is probably room for some electronic cleverness.
