OpenSezMe -- OlyMEGA's wholehearted attempt at a scalable access control system

Fri, 04/06/2012 - 2:03pm -- keith

I have made great inroads to accomplishing the goal of creating a scalable access control system for our doors. The system will be capable of reading RFID cards, keypad entry of codes and will allow the use of an LCD to give instruction and status to the user. I will describe this system in more detail here (with a healthy helping of made up acronyms).

The system is comprised of three main parts: User interface console(UIC), access control and auditing unit(ACAU) and database server(DBS).

Been thinking a lot about an energy harvesting flashlight

Fri, 02/17/2012 - 12:31pm -- keith

The idea is to use light and temperature gradients to keep an ultracapacitor charged. The flashlight would then run off of the stored charge in the ultracapacitor.

I am lookiing at an IC made by Texas Instruments that will allow this form of energy harvesting. The chip is a BQ25504RGTT. I will use a power inductor from Coilcraft, the LPS6235-223MLB. :-) (read more) about Been thinking a lot about an energy harvesting flashlight
