I went to a panel today at Miscon called "Arduino and Steampunk" (or something like that).
The gentleman who was to be the main person for the panel was home sick without a voice. The gentleman who was there kept apologizing, saying he'd only just gotten an Arduino.
I offered my help, he accepted. I made sure everyone knew that I'm only barely learning to program them, that I'm a hardware guy.
So I got to be a panelist. We both stressed how much simpler the Sketches make doing things. Inputs of various types, PWM, servos, etc. (read more) about Arduino at Miscon
I received an email from Jameco for something they call Club Jameco.
The gist is that you upload a brief describing a project. People vote on it and Jameco decides whether or not to ask you to continue. If they do, then you design it and upload your design.
Jameco then sells it as a kit and you collect royalties.
Initially I was quite excited, until I read their user agreement. (read more) about Club Jameco rules a bit much
Open source 3D printed lathe.
Glad to see this especially since the other unfinished open source 3D printed lathe project disappeared.
I just bought several NRF24L01+ 2.4GHz transceiver modules on Amazon, came from seller Sain Store.
I was not impressed. The pins are stuck in what appear to be garden variety white foam, held on with clear packing tape, stuck in a standard bubblewrap envelope. (read more) about Sainstore on Amazon - lack of ESD protective packaging
The kit for Xminilab is only $10 more than the kit for Xprotolab, and has a larger LCD screen.

The page for the assembled version has all the specs:

Just received it today. Build instructions are in a Wiki, and someone has posted a private video on Youtube of a timelapse build.

Whoo hoo! Got a message this morning, tracking info shows it is now in Germany.

I was speaking to someone last night at the Arduino meetup about capacitance meters.
The 555 timer has been a great boon to me since long before the term maker was coined. I've built a -lot- of capacitance meters using two 555 timers, and sold all but one. I finally built one from junkbox parts so I wouldn't let myself sell it. (read more) about 555 timer-based Capacitance meter
One of the members of my Yahoogroups Homebrew_PCBs, Electronics_101, and Inkjet_PCB_Construction has distilled info on using inkjets to print directly onto PCBs as etch resist. It includes which inks can be baked, how to bake them, and using toner to dust non-pigmented inks as a hybrid toner/ink resist process.
